The new Coral Highway / Autopista del Coral was opened 9th August 2012. This new highway links Punta Cana airport to La Romana town, La Romana airport and La Romana resorts in the south (Bayahibe), reducing the journey time from 90 minutes to 45. It bypasses the towns of Otra Banda and Higuey and makes for a quicker, smoother, easier, stress free drive! March 2011: There is now a car rental office in Punta Cana airport – behind the Taxi booth in the outer arrivals hall – there is a big green “rent-a-car” sign above.
