Water Taxi

Punta Cana Water TaxiWater taxis are a novel and fun way to travel along the coast and take in the view from the sea. Some of the restaurants use them to shuttle clients to and fro.

They can also access the beach where land taxis can’t get to eg. Caribbean Street (shopping street) between RIU Macao and RIU Naiboa, and the stretch from Hard Rock Hotel/Moon Palace to the RIUs where there is no public beach access.

Water taxis can be arranged by your hotel’s watersports centre or you can approach the skippers directly on the beach. They are generally more expensive than land taxis. Rates depend on distance traveled and the number of people in your group. If you’re in a group then negotiate hard with the skipper. 10$US per person is about the going rate for a 5 minute ride for two people. You can also find them around the beach vendor shacks – speak directly to the skipper (el cap-i-tan or el jefe (pronounced el he-fay) to get the best price.

Make sure they provide life jackets (they are supposed to by law). And bring a waterproof or ziplock bag for valuable as the sea spray can get ya wet!
