Water conditions: The water at both Catalonia Bavaro and Catalonia Royal is calm all year round with very little to no fast boat traffic. No surf for boogie boarding here. No rip tides or strong currents.
Snorkeling: both Catalonia resorts offer the best snorkeling in Punta Cana from right off the beach. You can snorkel outside the roped off swim zone where it is only about an arms length deep so no boat traffic here.
In front of Catalonia Royal there is a concrete barrier 35 yards from the beach that fish like to hang around. To the right of Catalonia Royal there is a long, shallow area that is also good.
Snorkeling gear is free for 1 hour each day, first come first served (20$US returnable deposit) Snorkel trips to the outer reefs where there are more fish, 5 minute boat ride away, available at the watersports center.
Golf: Catalonia Caribe Golf Club onsite and Cabeza de Toro Golf 5 minutes shuttle ride away.
