Captain Cook Restaurant is on the beach in Cortecito, next door to Palma’s Sand Bar & Restaurant (See Map 4). Captain Cook specialises in seafood. Some say it’s a tourist trap, some really like it. The service can be slow.

Titanus Giganteus world's largest beetle

Titanus Giganteus (cue schoolboy sniggering, that’s its real name) is the world’s largest beetle (in length). This handsome specimen was found in August 2010 on our porch in Bayahibe, Dominican Republic (90 minutes from Punta Cana). They have been spotted on a number of evenings flying around our apartment grounds after recent heavy rains. One of this one’s relatives unfortunately met its end in our pool.  Read More→
