Deep Blue Marine, an underwater exploration and artifact recovery organisation has recently been subcontracted to survey and recover artifacts in an undisclosed area off the coast of Punta Cana. They are working closely with the Fundacion PUNTACANA and will be supervised by the Dominican Republic’s Coastguard and an inspector from the Oficina Nacional de Patrimonio Cultura Subacuático. Their dive and recovery vessel the “Kerri Lynn” will be on site from July 2010, for an estimated 20 days per month, weather permitting. Read More→
In response to our History of Punta Cana post, some of our readers have kindly sent us more fascinating, old photos of Punta Cana.
Here are some sent in by Susan Hardy (alias Sukie63on from Trip Advisor’s forums). The photos are from her mother’s trip to Punta Cana way back sometime between 1982 and 1986. The photos show Bavaro Beach Resort (which closed in May 2010). This was one of the first hotels built in Punta Cana (the 3rd actually after Puntacana Resort & Club and Club Med). Lillian Mitchell (Susan’s mom) said they flew into Santo Domingo – I guess the airport at Punta Cana wasn’t served by all airlines in those days. Read More→
